Are You Drowning in Your Ambition?

Becoming extremely wealthy is something we all dream about including me. I could say I dream of the beautiful things money can buy. It is often said money cannot buy happiness. Despite this saying, we still want to find out if it is true for ourselves.
What is your attitude towards acquiring wealth? Does it consume every thought and every fiber of your being? We have heard it said constantly ‘focus on your goals; watch how you spend money and invest wisely’. This is definitely sound and amazing advice. You should spend money wisely and invest with loads of wisdom and research.

What Are You Focused On?

However, how many times do you really think of how much your focus on your goals is destroying the very things you are trying to protect? What is your relationship with your loved ones? Is it good, great or simply non-existent? Have you ever felt your life only consists of material things?
Is your life only about the acquisition of wealth? If you never become rich in life, how would you feel? I don’t want to ruin your parade or downplay the focus you should have on your goals. I consider myself a very focused and driven person sometimes to a fault. I like to achieve and after I have achieved my goals, achieve some more.
What about kindness and relationships? What about love and living life to the fullest regardless of how much you have in your bank account or what you have in your asset column? I don’t think anyone dies telling himself he wishes he had acquired more wealth. The man on his sickbed wonders why there is no one by his bedside to feel sympathy for him or to keep him company.

What Do You Choose Today?

Life is full of choices and options. What will you choose today? Will you focus only on acquiring wealth or will you focus on the seemingly softer things in life? You need to build relationships; treasure the people around you. Don’t let your time with them be non-existent.
Last year, I lost my aunt. It was one of the most horrible experiences in my life. She was here with us one minute and gone from us the next. Before she died, I had reminded myself consistently for days and even weeks to call her but I kept postponing it because I was busy with work; busy with my ambition. How do you think I felt after she died? She wasn’t ill for a long period. She was ill one day and gone the next.

Have a Mindset Shift

I wish to this day I had spent more time with her. I wish I had told her how much I loved her and how much I appreciated what she had done for me all those years. She was the most amazing aunt I ever had and I miss her deeply to this day. She didn’t know that though. Most of what she got from me were requests. She was good at sourcing for items and materials. Instead of making requests which helped me further my ambition, I should have told her she was my most favorite aunt.

“Over the years, I’ve learned how to strike a balance between both my lives and give quality time to my passion as well as to my family. Yes, it is tiring at times, and every working woman goes through the phase”. – Malaika Arora Khan

Are you so focused on acquiring wealth that you have lost sight of what is really important? If you ever go through sickness or other debilitating challenges, will people come to stand by you because they really want to or because they are expected to?

Give Love; Don’t Hoard It

Spend time with those you love. Parents, spend quality time with your kids no matter how busy you are. Give clothes, books and your time to people who can never repay you. Bill Gates who ranked No. 7 on Forbes ‘The World’s Most Powerful People of 2016’ and No. 1 Richest Man on Forbes 400 in 2016 and is also known for giving nearly $4 billion dollars every year describes philanthropy as fun and fulfilling. He also said:

The use of money is entirely in building an organization and getting resources out to the poorest in the world.

What attitude do you have towards money? Do you keep it all to yourself or do you share it with others?
I would love to hear from you. What is your attitude towards money? Are you so focused on acquiring it you have lost sight of everything else or do you spend time with loved ones and give love and money to them as well as people who can never repay you?
You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving. Giving is a true expression of love.
